Sanctuary Terms of Use

By installing or using Sanctuary you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

1. What Sanctuary is

Sanctuary is a personal companion that keeps the things on your mind — tasks, ideas, notes, reminders — and brings them back at the right time. It uses an AI service to understand what you say or type; your voice is turned into text on your phone. It is a personal organisation tool. It is not a medical, legal, financial or safety service, and it is not a substitute for professional advice or for any system you rely on for critical or time-critical obligations.

2. Licence

We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use Sanctuary on Apple devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Terms of Service. You may not copy, modify, reverse engineer, resell or redistribute the app, or use it to build a competing service.

3. Your content

What you capture is yours. You keep all rights to it. You grant us only what is technically needed to run the app: the right to send your capture text to the AI service that processes it and to return the result to you, as described in the Privacy Policy. We do not claim ownership of, publish, or use your content for any other purpose.

You are responsible for what you capture. Do not use Sanctuary to store or transmit content that is unlawful, that infringes others' rights, or that you do not have the right to share.

4. The AI may be wrong

Sanctuary's understanding of your words is produced by an AI model and can be wrong: it may misread a date, a name, a repeat, or whether something is a task at all. The app shows you what it understood so you can correct it, and you should. You are responsible for checking anything that matters.

5. Reminders are best-effort

Reminders depend on iOS notifications, your device settings, Focus modes, battery and network conditions, and on the app being installed and not force-quit for long periods. We do not guarantee that any reminder will be delivered at a particular time or at all. Optional email reminders depend on the address you verify, your mail provider and its spam filtering, and are sent at most once every seven days; the same best-effort rule applies.

Sanctuary decides when and how often to bring something back under its own rules, which may change: a thing you snooze or swipe away returns later, a thing you let go does not return, and reminders stop for the day after a number of attempts. Those rules are part of the product, not a guarantee.

You remain solely responsible for your obligations, deadlines and decisions, whether or not Sanctuary reminded you, reminded you late, or understood you incorrectly. Do not rely on Sanctuary alone for anything where a missed or mistaken reminder could cause harm or loss.

6. Availability and changes

Parts of Sanctuary depend on third-party AI services and on our relay. These may be unavailable, rate-limited or changed at any time. We may add, change or remove features, and may discontinue the app. Captures made while offline are kept on your phone and processed when a connection returns.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to: interfere with or overload our relay or the services behind it; attempt to extract service keys or bypass rate limits; use the app in breach of applicable law; or use it to harass, harm or deceive others.

8. Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains what stays on your phone and what is sent to AI services. It forms part of these terms.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

Sanctuary is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, missed or late reminders, misunderstood captures, missed obligations, missed deadlines or lost profits, arising from your use of or inability to use Sanctuary or from anything you did or did not do in reliance on it. Our total liability for any claim relating to the app is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for it in the twelve months before the claim and USD 50. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits; where that is the case, they apply only as far as the law allows.

11. Termination

You may stop using Sanctuary at any time by deleting it. We may suspend or end your access to the relay or the app if you breach these terms. Sections 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, 12 and 13 survive termination.

12. Apple-specific terms

These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content. We, not Apple, are responsible for maintenance, support, any product warranty, and any claim relating to the app, including product liability, legal or regulatory compliance, and intellectual property claims. Your licence is limited to use on Apple devices you own or control, per the App Store Terms of Service. You confirm you are not in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, and are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

13. General

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, and disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Delaware, unless mandatory law where you live provides otherwise. If any provision is unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. These terms, with the Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between you and us about Sanctuary. We may update these terms; material changes will be noted in the app's release notes, and continued use after a change means you accept it.
